I had the pleasure of photographing some friends Lacey and Rory for their maternity portrait session here in Bozeman, Montana. These two were so excited to have their photos created. We will be doing part two later this year when their little one gets a little bigger. For this part, we decided to hike around the "M" Trail at the edge of the Bridger Mountains just outside of town. The evening light made for not only a lovely walk but also prime light for making some cool photographs. We had a great time. Here are some of my favorite images from the day.

Back in late May, I had the pleasure of photographing Bozeman Maternity Family Portraits of Lacey and Rory on the “M” Trail in Bozeman, Montana.

These two were so excited about their new family and wanted to create some environmental portraits of them in the town they love. For ease of outdoor access, we decided to hike around the “M” Trail at the edge of the Bridger Mountains just outside of downtown Bozeman.

I love the summertime!

The evening light during our photo session made for not only a lovely walk but also prime light for making some sunset photographs amongst the endless hillsides covered in yellow Arrowleaf Balsamroot wildflowers.

A great setting combined with enthusiastic expecting parents made for a great time.

Here are some of my favorite images from their Bozeman Maternity Family Portraits session. I’m excited for you and your new family Lacey and Rory. Congrats again! -M

I recently photographed the Gallatin Valley Botanical Labrador Puppy Family Portrait of Matt and Jacy!

For the past 7 weeks, I’ve been making a weekly trek to the outskirts of Bozeman to the Gallatin Valley Botanical farm with my girlfriend Lora to scope out her new puppy and best friend. Ten labrador puppies equal awesome. Our Wednesday visits quickly became the best day of the week for us to play with the kids.

Matt and Jacy, the owners of the local Bozeman farm, had a litter of ten puppies and one of which would soon come bouncing into my life. During my youth growing up in Illinois, my family bred labs on our five-acre wooded property. I have some good family memories growing up around Labradors. Now by association, I would get to be around once again. Awesome indeed.

Before the puppies all went to new homes, I ventured one evening over to the Bozeman organic farm with my camera and made some fun Gallatin Valley Botanical Labrador Puppy Family Portrait photos of Matt and Jacy along with their kids and an army of labrador puppies. After all, it’s not often an opportunity like this happens. We had a great time. In the end, Lora got a yellow male and is calling him “Timber”. This will be fun. The dog adventure begins. -M

A few weeks ago, I photographed the Hyalite Reservoir Family Portrait session of Kim and Daniel.

It started when I got a phone call from my cousin Kim.

Her husband Daniel, herself, and their little daughter Adleigh would be passing through Bozeman on a family road trip. Montana has been experiencing just beautiful weather this summer. Kim and Daniel wanted to have some Hyalite Reservoir family portraits made to highlight this time in their lives as a young family.

Thankfully, I had a rare break in the action from my busy wedding season. We decided to meet up and head over to Hyalite Reservoir just outside of Bozeman.

I’m a sucker for the outdoors and will always default to nature for my portrait backdrops. It just seems more natural. Pun intended. Lucky for me the whole area is one big scenic postcard.

After a sunset picnic dinner from Roost Fried Chicken, we started playing with the light of the setting sun. I wanted to photos to be about them and their relationship with each other, not their clothing. This was a family that was naturally photogenic.

With the help of my assistant/sister Katie, we explored and made some fun images during their Hyalite Reservoir Family Portrait session. We laughed all evening at Adleigh’s reactions. Thanks for looking, -M
